Former Member Of the
Pentecostal Church
I Knew That I Was Home
By Chad W. Nordland
I will briefly explain how I was introduced to the
Church. It was my Junior year in High School and I was really
confused in my Math class. The reason was because I slept a lot and
didn't pay attention.
One day my teacher, Ms. Stewart, moved me to the
other side of the classroom. She wanted to change some things up in
the classroom. I really didn't care too much I was always asleep
anyways.
One day for some reason I decided to stay awake
and do my work, but I encountered a math problem I didn't know how
to solve. So I asked the person sitting in front of me if she could
help me.
I had no idea who she was but I figured she could
help. Her name was Lauren Keith by the way. Well she helped me catch
up on all my back work. I found it would be easier for me to stay
awake than to sleep in this class from now on.
One thing that I noticed about her a couple of
weeks later is how she talked and acted. I never heard her swear or
talk down to other people in class. I can't remember how we got on
the topic of religion, but when she talked about it seemed to make
since.
On the last day of the week she asked me if I
would like to come out to Church. I, of course, said yes. When
Sunday rolled around and I came to the Church for the first time
about an hour early.
I felt something that I don't believe that I had
felt in a long time. I knew I was home. The Holy Ghost confirmed to
me that I was in the right place. Now I know why I came so early I
believe I just had to sit there and adjust.
After awhile Lauren came and looked at me and
said: "You came." We went to the sacrament meeting and I really
liked it a lot. The Church had kids singing in the middle of the
service and that really touched me a lot. It was a really spiritual
meeting.
One thing that appealed to me about the Church was
the member who invited me out to the Church. I might have not joined
the Church till years later if Lauren would not have opened her
mouth and talked to me about the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ.
I had a religious background, before I came to
this church I was Pentecostal. The feelings that I have felt in the
Pentecostal Church are different than what I feel in The Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Like I said before I know that I am home now. I
wrote this Conversion Story four years from the first day I came to
the Church.
I bear record that I know that the principles of
the Gospel are true. I've been blessed for following the advice of
the prophet's and for serving the Lord. I know that a Prophet of God
guides us.
My testimony was really weak for many years, which
was because I was too lazy to study. It's really easy for me to read
and know the doctrine, but I want to apply it and teach others about
the life of Christ.
I have a testimony, and I know that this is
Christ's Church built upon a foundation of prophets and apostles
with Jesus Christ himself being that Chief corner stone. I bear
record that this is the only true church. I joined the church eight
years ago and served a faithful mission in Kentucky and now an
author of two books.
