Former Member Of The Catholic Church
"God Was Telling Me Something"
By Leo Her
September 25th, 2005, my friend was talking to me
about her church. She had invited me to a Scripture study class,
October 5th, 2005 at 8pm. I attended the Church scripture study class
in West New York, New Jersey.
All the things she had taught me about the Church,
were being taught in the scripture study class. I really had a firm
grasp of what was being taught that night. Every Wednesday at 8pm I
would go to the LDS Church for scripture study class.
Elder Lara, the missionary that was teaching the
class came up to me when class was over. He had said "Leo, you seem
very interested in the Church. Is it ok if I send missionaries over
to your house?" I replied with a yes. The next day I got a phone
call from Elder Lacy. He had called me to set up a day and time to
meet.
There were some problems in the home with my
parents, so I had told Elder Lacy if it was ok to meet at the
Church at 7:30 pm, next week Thursday. October 13th I entered the
Church to meet Elder Lacy, Elder Bargemen, and Elder Jolley.
The three Missionaries were members from the
Jersey City 2nd Ward. They had taught me all the things I had
already been taught. They found out how I came upon the Church.
They began to test me from all the things I was
taught. They then told me I met all the requirements of the Church
to be baptized. I felt that I was unsure and not ready to be
baptized yet. I was Catholic at that time. I always told myself “I
would never leave the Catholic Belief.”
The Elders began to tell me lots more about the
Church. Few days later they told me to pray about getting baptized,
and I did. I felt that good feeling to be baptized. Before we did
set up a date and time, I had to talk to my parents about it first.
I was talking to my parents about it and, it did
not go as well as I hoped. The only person that really understood me
was my grandmother which is deeply a member of the Catholic Church.
My grandmother told my mother “If this is something that will make
him happy, let him do it. It’s good that he still believes in God
and Jesus Christ.
This was God’s plan for him.” When my grandmother
said thus words “This is God’s plan” It opened my eyes. I was in
shock. I told myself “God is telling me something, this is the true
Church”. I had to wait until I was 18 to get baptized. I wanted my
friend to be there and take a part of my Baptism.
Because of my friend, she has changed my life in
so many ways. Because of her, I can return to my Heavenly Father. Because of her, I can serve my Heavenly Father.
Because of her, I found the true Church. Because of her, I found the
church that could answer all the questions to my prayers.
She did what our Heavenly Father wanted us to do.
Convert others to the Church of Jesus Christ, to have faith in the
Lord Jesus Christ, Repent, be Baptize in the name of Jesus Christ,
laying of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Brothers and Sisters, I like to testify that I
know The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the true
Church. I have found answers to my prayers from this Church.
We have a living prophet leading the Church today,
Gordon B. Hinckley. God is our true father. Jesus Christ is our Lord
and Savior and the Redeemer of mankind. On Jan 29, 2007 marked my
first anniversary as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints.
