"What Do The Mormon Missionaries Teach?"
At some point, it seems like nearly everyone will
meet
a
Mormon missionary, but far fewer talk to
them and listen to what they have to say.
What do Mormon missionaries teach? It is
quite simple: they teach
what Mormons believe. What do Mormons
believe? That is not so simple to answer, but here is a start.
Mormonism, really the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints, teaches that
there is a God, our Heavenly Father who
created this world and each of us as one of His children. His
beloved Son, the only begotten hear on earth is
Jesus Christ whom God sent to save us from
death and sin (see John 3:16). They are two separate beings who are
one in glory, power, and purpose. The Holy Ghost testifies of them
and comforts us.
Mormon
missionaries teach that
God has a plan for us, that this earth was
created so that we might inhabit it and be tested to see if will be
faithful in following God. Mormons call this
the Plan of Salvation.
Part of that plan is that we will have trials and make mistakes, but
we can learn from them and through the grace and power of Jesus
Christ we can be forgiven of the mistakes and return to live with
God.
Mormon missionaries teach that the reason
we can know all this is that God had called prophets in our day,
just as he did in the times of the Bible to proclaim His message.
The first of these modern prophets was
Joseph Smith who saw God in a vision and
translated the Book of Mormon, a second volume of scripture like the
Bible.
The Mormon missionaries give out copies of the Book of Mormon free
to anyone who wants one so that they can read and know for
themselves that the Book of Mormon is God’s word and that prophets
are again on the earth. By listening to the living prophets we can
know God’s words for us today and be able to withstand the trials
and temptations that we all face.
